Libertines Babyshambles
May 15th, 2008Out of the ashes of Lond-based indie rock band The Libertines rises Babyshambles. Having been thrown out of the Libertines in 2003 until he could curb his incessant drug use, singer Pete Doherty recruited some former band members for a new project.
Doherty and co. had planned to perform and record under as the Libertines, but lead Guitarist Carl Barat disputed Doherty’s rights to the name. The band was to be called Babyshambles, and their first performance was cancelled as Doherty was arrested for breaking into Barat’s home.
The Babyshambles project was then shelved after Doherty’s two-month long inprisonment when he re-joined the Libertines. Following an album and a string of acclaimed live performances, Doherty once again was thrown out of the libertines for his drug abuse, this time for good. Babyshambles were then resurrected in 2004. They have since signed to Parlophone records, recorded two studio albums, one EP, and have released several songs for free to fans. Babyshambles are set to release the live DVD Oh What a Lovely Tour, an accompanying CD.
